I believe this is a Cedar Waxwing. Or a Wax Cedarwing. Not really a bird guy so I'm not sure. I can identify a seagull for sure, outside that, anybody's guess.

I would have liked this to be a really nice shot of seagull doing something dramatic on LBI. The 29 inches of snow that Snowmageddon 2010 dumped on us has made shooting photos from my kitchen my only outlet.

Many people are unaware that the fence you see along the dunes is not to protect them, but to keep out invading Hons (look the term up). There are many beaches closer to Baltimore for them.

October 4, 2009: Two saviors dropped down from above and gave the old girl the support she needed. I was driving off the island and saw them leaving the shack after giving her some much needed repair. I don't know if she will ever be whole again, but they have guaranteed her a few more years. Thank you.

The rumors of her demise have been grossly exaggerated. If you talked to me at the Merchant Mart on Saturday, October 3, I most likely would have said the Shack had little time left. I had no idea that on October 4 she would get a new lease on life thanks to some anonymous help.

These are the first ever photos of the structural help the shack received. I can write this with confidence. As I pulled up to photograph the shack, the brave men who came to her rescue were just leaving. Thanks again for keeping this LBI icon standing.

I agree we should all stay off the dunes. But ya gotta wonder, how did that sign get up there? I figure the sign placer rented a helicopter and hovered over the dunes an strategically dropped it from above.

My other theory for how the sign got here, knowing that you are not allowed on the dunes, is the Jersey Devil put it there. Has anybody actually seen the Jersey Devil recently? I think he retired to the beach and is making up for years of scaring campers by protecting the shore.

If you are going to go swimming without a lifeguard you need a buddy. These guys were riding the surf at Island State Park. Looks like they wiped out a few times though. Got a tooth or two missing.

Very rare to be the only set of footprints cresting a dune entrance. But like the dunes, the tracks won't last. Mother nature will erase them so that you'll have a chance to be the first.

Once upon a time, a boy named Jack went to the marina to get fresh fish for dinner. Along the way he spent the money his mother had given him on a beer instead. Scared of his mother's wrath, he planted the beer mug on the tip of LBI. Next day, a lighthouse grew. Go figure.

150 years young and blind for almost 82 of them. Nice to see her vision has been restored. Although not as bright as you might think up close. But definitely bright enough for you to see it going over the causeway.

On of the cool things about the Barnegat Lighthouse is that you can identify it easily without seeing the whole thing. The two-tone paint job was ahead of its time.

Okay, this photo scared me. Yeah, I'm a wimp. The pier is about six feet off the ground, I'm 6' 3". That puts my head over 12 feet above an imminent death. Not a fan of heights. The lengths I go for these photos.

This is a shot of Old Barney pre-relighting. Hoping to get a bunch after she's lit up like a reveler on Saint Patty's day. Since this was shot in low light, the image is a bit grainy. I'd stray away from prints larger than 11" x 14".

The only thing that would make this shot better, would be a little snow. Of course snow and salt air make for a very brief blanket. Very tough to be at the right place and right time. I'll keep trying.

One question: What are these pots doing on the dock? Crabs are resourceful, sure, but they are not going to climb a piling, hop in an empty pot and then wait to be steamed and placed on my dinner plate. Get these suckers in the bay, toot sweet.

The public dock in Harvey Cedars is a great place to fish and crab during the day. If you can hold off heading to happy hour, it's also a great place for sunsets.
